Diced idli upma (Idilae Kuttikya Upma) can be prepared in the same way you prepare upma but instead of sooji rava /Bombay rava you will use idili pieces. ‘Idilae kuttikae’ in Konkani means idli pieces. It is a delicious, filling and nutritious dish that can be prepared with left over idilis. No onions and no garlic used in the preparation. It can be prepared in a short time and can be served to children and elderly along with tea and coffee.
Ingredients
You need
- 2 to 4 no’s of left over idlis
Seasoning
You need
- 2 tbspn of coconut oil
- 1 small spoon of mustard seeds
- 1 small spoon urd dhal
- 1 small spoon of jeera /cumin seeds
- 2 no’s green chilies (or as per your spiciness level)
- 2 no’s red chilies (or as per your spiciness level)
- 1 sprig of curry leaves
Method
For preparing diced idili upma first you have to cut the idilis into small cubes and keep aside
Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter add urd dhal, jeera and green chilies. Sauté the green chilies for a second to cook them or till the green color slightly fades. Then add the red chilies and curry leaves. Sauté for a second and immediately add the diced idilis. Mix gently but thoroughly.
Lower the flame and slightly roast the idilis in coconut oil till the edges become light brown. Once done remove from flame.
Your Diced idli upma (Idilae Kuttikya Upma) is ready to be served.
Serve hot/warm with hot steaming tea or coffee.
Some people prefer Diced idli upma (Idilae Kuttikya Upma) along with mixture, which is also a very good combination.
Tips
Add more oil to roast the idili cubes this adds to the taste of the upma.
Adding salt is optional since your idili is having salt in it.
