Nendran banana ladoos (Nanderbalae kelya undae) are a simple healthy and energy rich food that can be given to children after they return tired from school. It is a sweet dish and most of the ingredients in the preparation of Nendran banana ladoos (Nanderbalae kelya undae) are those that which children usually like. It is a very easy to prepare dish that even working women after coming back from work can prepare it in a jiffy!!! (Nendran Banana a variety of banana especially grown in Kerala).
Ingredients
You need
- 2 numbers of half ripened Nendran banana (‘Nanderbalae’ in Konkani)
- 1 to 2 tbspns of grated coconut
- 1 tbspn of ghee/oil
- 5 to 6 Elaichi/Cardamom (Powder and use)
- 3 to 4 tbspn of sugar (Or as per your sweetness level)
Method
Cut the half ripened Nendran banana into 2 or 3 pieces and cook in water.
Once they have cooled mash the bananas nicely after removing the central seed portion.
Heat ghee/oil in kadai. Ghee will give a good flavour and aroma to the ladoos.
Add the mashed bananas and sugar into it and roast it lightly so that the ghee and sugar gets well mixed with the banana. (As ghee and sugar gets well mixed with the banana the mix is tight is such a consistency to enable us to make laddu).
Add coconut gratings at this stage. Mix well.
Add powdered elaichi/cardamom and mix well.
Once it has reached a temperature which you can hold on then start preparing small balls out of it. Before preparing the balls smear your hands with little ghee so that the mixture will not stick to your hands.
Your Nendran banana ladoos (Nanderbalae kelya undae) are ready to be served.
Serve it along with hot and spicy Mixture and Tea.
Tips
Use half ripened bananas. They will easily form ladoos than the fully ripened ones.
Do not over-roast at any step. It will give an off flavour and taste to the dish.
The quantity of sugar you can vary depending on the sweetness of your banana.
