Raw groundnut curry (Bimooka ukkari)

Raw groundnut curry (Bimooka ukkari), is prepared from raw groundnuts. In Konkani ‘Bimooku’ means groundnut and it is called as ‘Kappalandi’ in Malayalam. This is a healthy and nutritious preparation that can be given to children after they return home from school. You can use either the groundnuts that you get in the stores (packed) or the ones with shell. If you are using the shelled one break open the shell and separate the nuts and then use it. This is a dry preparation and it is less spicy as well.  This dish is usually prepared as a 4’O clock dish and had along with tea and coffee. You can have this dish along with cooked Nendran banana (Kerala variety banana). No onions and garlic has been used in the preparation of the dish. In this recipe I have used the ones that you get in stores (packed).

I follow the pressure cooking time as follows: One whitsle and then cook on low flame for 5 to 6 minutes. Now switch off the flame. Once the pressure cooker has cooled down remove and keep outside.

Now do the  seasoning as follows: Heat oil in a kadai or pan. Add the mustard seeds and when they splutter add the curry leaves. Now add the cooked groundnuts mix well and close and cook for 2 minutes.

Serve it warm with tea or coffee. You can also have it with cooked Nendran banana (Kerala variety banana).

 Tips

If you are using the shelled groundnuts see that you separate the nut form the shell and use. These groundnuts need not have to be soaked prior to preparing the curry. You can add them to the seasoning as such but just sprinkle some water to cook it.

If you are allergic to these nuts better avoid consumption.
