Dali sandhan and Dal Idili is similar to udidha sandhan /idili in preparation (Both are steamed preparations) but they differ in the ingredients in the batter. This is also a very healthy and nutritious dish that can be had along with coconut chutney/thiksani humman. It is prepared from a batter prepared from urad dal and moong dal and no rice is added. Since this is a dish rich in protein it would become a very healthy breakfast dish.
No fermentation required. No onion and garlic used.
Ingredients
You need
- 1 cup urad dal
- 2 cups moong dal (Green gram dal)
- 3 to 4 green chillies sliced (Or as per your spiciness level)
- 1 tbspn Ginger
- Curry leaves chopped
- Coriander leaves chopped
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
Method
Wash and soak the urad dal and moong dal seperately for 3 to 4 hours.
First grind the urad dal batter. Next grind the moong dal to coarse consistency adding required water. Mix both the batter and bring them to idili batter consistency adding water.
Now add the sliced green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt and mix well. If required you can add water to get the required consistency.
For dali idili preparation
Keep the idili steamer on the stove and let the water in it boil. Now grease idili plates with oil add the batter in the plate. Place the idili plates into the steamer. Steam cook for 12 to 15 minutes or until done.
Your dali idili is ready to be served.
Serve with coconut chutney/tiksani humman
For dali sandhan preparation
Keep the idili steamer on the stove and let the water in it boil. Now grease a container that will fit in the steamer with oil. Pour the batter into the container. Place the container in the steamer. Close the lid of the steamer. Steam cook for 12 to 15 minutes or until done.
You can check for doneness by inserting a tooth pick into the sandhan in the steamer. If the tooth pick comes out clean then your Dali sandhan is ready else cook for some more time. Once done cut it into pieces of your choice when cooled.
Your Dali sandhan (Dal Idili) is ready to be served.
Serve it with coconut chutney/thiksani humman.
