Allein (Ginger Raita) is an unavoidable dish in a GSB Konkani feast. The dish will have the appearance of a coconut chutney but it is not so. This is a dish that usually helps in digestion. This is a very simple and easy to prepare dish that can be prepared in a few minutes. No onion and garlic used.
Ingredients
You need
- 1/4th cup grated coconut
- 2 to 3 green chillies (or as per your spiciness level)
- 3/4th tbspn finely chopped ginger
- 1/4th cup curd (sour)
- Water as required
- Salt as required
For seasoning
- Oil for seasoning
- A small spoon mustard
- A small spoon jeera/cumin seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
Method
Grind grated coconut, green chillies, ginger and salt to a fine paste adding water as required.
Now beat the curd using a whisk or in a mixer.
Add the curd to the ground paste and mix well.
Now do the seasoning. Heat oil in a kadai/pan add mustard seeds and when they splutter add cumin seeds followed by curry leaves. Pour the seasoning to the allein and mix well.
Your Allein (Ginger Raita) is ready to be served.
Tips
If there is any left out store in refrigerator. Finish it off by next day.
It is always better to prepare the dish fresh as the curd will get more sour on keeping and you will loose the taste of the dish.
